Champagne Blog - English Sparkling Wine Blog
With a long and distinguished archive of personal expertise in tasting champagne, Michael Edwards takes a couple of minutes to reflect on the English Sparkling Wines that are stealing many headlines in the UK today.
In this short interview Michael Edwards gives his view on how global warming has had a positive impact on grape growing for sparkling wines in England. Michael also suggests taking a leaf out of the Champenois textbook and building up reserve wines, so that difficult vintages can be balanced out to build consistency in the British Isles variable maritime climate.
Edwards is big fan of the meunier grape and praises it for its resilience against climate extremes and also for its individual fruity character.
His final advice to producers? Don’t cut prices to be another prosecco - stick to your guns and justify the prices you want to charge by putting the focus on high quality.
