The sun comes up over the vineyards, set among the Monferrato Hills, illuminating each undulation in subtle pinks against the Western Alps soaring skywards.
In London, the evening sun casts shadows across the skyscrapers of the city, our gargantuan monuments to trade, glistening in the spectrum of evening light. The Pinot Nero grapes of North West Italy have long since been pressed, bottled and finally poured. The attractive pastel pink in the glass echoing the cyclical dying rays of the burning sun.
Why so much lyricism? This is an excellent wine made with the Monferrato DOC. Having long struggled to muster enthusiasm for pink wines, credit is given where due. This Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) wine made from the Fountain Cru has a brilliant alluring quality that will find many admirers among drinkers.
Bricco dei Guazzi has been making wine in this area for 600 years and prizes stewardship of the land as part of their heritage. The rugged landscape combines cooling alpine winds with ancient soils that allow for deep vine roots and excellent drainage.

The aromas are bright ripe summer fruits; a sweet and attractive perfume. To taste there is a distinct wild strawberry, subtle and elegant. One sip inevitably leads to the next. The empty bottle only leaves the trace of flavours and the memory of time well spent.
We also served plates of barbecued prawns, another pink addition, that worked fabulously well.
